World COPD Day 2009

Ahead of World COPD Day, Breathe Easy Glenfield held a Bric-a-Brac stall on 11 November in the reception area of Glenfield Hospital. Group members donated many items to sell, including some beautiful wooden bowls and vases that had been handcrafted! As the Bric-a-Brac took place on Remembrance Day, a two-minute silence was held at 11am. £578.43 was raised in total!

The group have also recently purchased 90 patient information booklets for Glenfield Hospital. One Booklet Presentationwill be put by every bed on the main respiratory wards. The booklets have been produced to improve communication between staff, patients and relatives. They contain useful information relating to the ward environment, nursing and medical staff, hospital services, standards patients can expect, and discharge information. They also give patients and relatives the opportunity to leave feedback so that services can be improved. The folders are very cost effective as individual sheets can be replaced if changes occur, rather than having to reprint the whole booklet. They can also be wiped clean so do not pose an infection control risk. Below, group members are pictured holding the booklets with Matron Judith Evans at their World COPD Day bric-a-brac event.
