What are News Feeds and how do they work?

rss iconUsing RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds, you can receive automatic updates whenever new stories are posted in our Media Centre section. RSS feeds alert you when webpages have been updated without you having to visit the website itself.

To use these feeds, you need to use a piece of software called an 'RSS reader’. These are programmes which automatically check selected websites for updated items, such as news headlines or podcasts. Note: if you are using either Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox, your browser will have a built-in RSS reader.

Using your news reader, you can subscribe to the news feeds wherever you see the orange RSS buttons. You can either click on the button to view a RSS feed directly, or drag the button or URL of the feed onto an area of the reader to subscribe.
