Since 2008, Craig Phillips has been supporting the British Lung Foundation to raise awareness of the asbestos related chest cancer Mesothelioma. Being a builder by trade, Craig knows only too well the dangers of asbestos if it is disturbed. Sadly, Craig also has a personal link to the charity as his uncle has another asbestos related illness.
For the 2010 Action Mesothelioma Day campaign Craig helped to target homeowners who do DIY in their properties which may contain asbestos materials. The campaign aimed to ensure that homeowners do DIY safely and raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos if it is disturbed. As part of the campaign Craig was featured in national print and broadcast media including the Daily Mirror, the Metro and Loose Women. Craig was also broadcast across the country when he took part in a full radio day covering stations across the country and took the spotlight in a cover story for the British Lung Foundation’s magazine Breathing Space. In total the campaign achieved 266 pieces of media coverage.
Craig says: “I am delighted to be able to help the British Lung Foundation; their work is invaluable to many people across the country. This campaign focuses on the building industry which is why I wanted to get involved because I owe a lot to the industry and if I can protect it in any way I will. The initiative is also close to my heart as my uncle has been affected by asbestos exposure so I know exactly how dangerous asbestos can be.”
Craig has recently taken part in the Scottish gameshow Postcode Challenge and donated his winnings to the British Lung Foundation. With many upcoming projects the British Lung Foundation regularly use social media to promote Craig’s work outside of the charity.
Similarly to Liz Dawn, Craig has a dedicated account manager at the BLF. The Account Manager organises all his travel and hotel arrangements and ensures he is fully briefed for any interviews he takes part in as a BLF celebrity supporter.
