The British Lung Foundation has a host of celebrities who have very kindly given their time to support our campaigns.
Jonathan Ansell
Former G4 member Jonathan Ansell, who is now a hugely successful solo artist, won the British Lung Foundation’s male Lungs of the Year in 2008 to mark the British Lung Foundation’s national Breathe Easy Week. The award was a framed photograph of a beautiful glass lung sculpture by award-winning artist Annie Cattrell.
He says: "Having a tenor voice I have to make sure that I take good care of my lungs so that I can reach all those high notes! I am delighted to have won the British Lung Foundation’s Lung of the Year award and I fully support their Big Breaths campaign.”
James Cracknell
Olympic gold medalist rower, James Cracknell is supporting the British Lung Foundation's 'big breaths' campaign.
James says: "As an athlete I know how important it is to keep my lungs healthy, that’s why I am supporting the British Lung Foundation's Big Breaths campaign to encourage everyone to look after their lungs by following the BLF's Airway Code".
Melanie C
Solo artist and former Spice girl, Melanie C is supporting the British Lung Foundation's 'big breaths' campaign.
"Being a singer I have to make sure that I take good care of my lungs so that I can perform my songs night after night whilst on tour! That's why I have decided to support the British Lung Foundation's Big Breaths campaign to encourage young people to keep active and look after their lungs by following the BLF's airway code."
Liz Dawn
Former Coronation Street Actress, Liz Dawn who played Vera Duckworth in the soap, has been appointed as a celebrity ambassador for the British Lung Foundation.
Liz, 69, was a pivotal and much loved character in the soap for over 33 years but sadly had to leave the street last year when her health began to deteriorate after she was diagnosed with the lung condition, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
COPD is an umbrella term for a group of lung conditions including emphysema and chronic bronchitis and is currently the fifth biggest killer in UK
Liz will be heading up the BLF’s ‘Love Your Lungs’ campaign which will be launched during this year’s Breathe Easy Week (15th-21st June), the charity’s flagship awareness campaign. Liz will be encouraging anyone who has symptoms such as a persistent cough, recurrent chest infections or breathlessness or are current or ex-smokers to visit their doctor for a lung test so they can get diagnosed earlier and treated.

Craig Phillips
DIY expert and TV presenter Craig Phillips, winner of Big Brother 1, is supporting the British Lung Foundation’s call for tradespeople to ‘Be Asbestos Aware’. His uncle Gordon has an asbestos-related lung disease, which has had a debilitating impact on his life.
Craig Phillips says: “I am supporting the British Lung Foundation’s campaign because I have seen first hand what asbestos can do and I don’t want anyone else to suffer as my uncle has. I am urging tradespeople to make sure they are asbestos aware and to always stop working and get advice if they think asbestos could be present on their job.”
Sir Bobby Robson
Former International football player and football manager Sir Bobby Robson are supporting the British Lung Foundation's Big Breaths campaign. Bobby says: "I know only too well how precious your lungs are and how important it is to raise awareness of lung health. I'd advise everyone to look after their lungs, follow the British Lung Foundation's Airway Code and make sure they can take Big Breaths."
Kelly Smith
England and Arsenal Striker, Kelly Smith won the British Lung Foundation’s female Lungs of the Year to mark the British Lung Foundation’s national Breathe Easy Week 2008. The award was a framed photograph of a beautiful glass lung sculpture by award-winning artist Annie Cattrell.
Kelly says: “As a footballer for both Arsenal and England, I know just how important it is to look after my body and have a good diet; it helps me to keep at the top of my game. It’s fantastic to have won the British Lung Foundation’s ‘Lungs of the Year’ award. I am a great supporter of the work that the British Lung Foundation is doing to promote the benefits of having healthy lungs”.
