People of all ages and from all walks of life currently volunteer for the British Lung Foundation, whether giving one day a week or one day a year. However, what they all have in common is their wish to make a difference to their lives and to others. Whatever your skills or experience there is a way your can help.
The British Lung Foundation is the only UK charity working for people today and tomorrow with all forms of lung disease. By providing support and information we are able to make a real difference to people lives. The We also campaign for people with a lung condition, as well as raising much needed funds for medical research.
Volunteers play a vital role in our work by giving up their time and energy to support people and help to raise the profile of lung disease. Without its volunteers the British Lung Foundation would not be able to provide the type of assistance that is so desperately needed.
Help to make a difference
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, use your experience and knowledge to benefit others, take part in challenging activities and to learn new skills.
There are three main ways that you can get involved with the British Lung Foundation:
Helping people in your local community
This involves helping your local Breathe Easy support group. These groups usually meet every month and are run by members for members. Family, friends and carers are all invited.
The groups are involved in a wide variety of activities including; meeting with their MPs, arranging awareness days, fundraising, organising speakers – and most importantly allowing people with a lung condition to meet and chat over a cup of tea.
By helping your local group with any of the above activities you will be provided much needed assistance. Whether you have a couple of hours spare or a full day, this is a wonderful opportunity for you help your local community.
Working in your local British Lung Foundation office
The British Lung Foundation has eight offices throughout the UK, with a Head Office located in London. They all work with their local health organisations, the general public, and patients to raise awareness about the British Lung Foundation and lung disease.
"Volunteering for my local Breathe Easy group has been really rewarding and fun. I have been able to use my experience to help others as well as developing new skills." Bobby Newman
