25th Anniversary appeal

Missing millions

The BLF's 25th Anniversary Appeal

The British Lung Foundation (BLF) launched its 25th Anniversary appeal in September 2010.

The appeal focuses on the BLF's quest to find the missing millions of people with undiagnosed COPD (umbrella term for emphysema and chronic bronchitis). The appeal will also raise awareness of the disease, its signs and symptoms.

Will you help, by making a donation today?

COPD ruins lives. It kills more people in the UK than bowel cancer, breast cancer or prostate cancer.

Did you know that every single hour 250 people worldwide die of it, and that by 2020 it is predicted to be the world’s third biggest killer?

It’s estimated that 3.7 million people in the UK have COPD. But only around 900,000 have been correctly diagnosed. That means that, across the country, there are a staggering 2.8 million people who aren’t even aware that their lives are in danger.

To help mark our 25th anniversary in 2010, we’re doing all we can to find the missing millions with COPD. That means going into communities like yours and carrying out a simple yet effective test on anyone who has had some difficulty breathing.

Each test costs just £12.50 to administer – but it could be enough to save someone’s life.

Please, if you can make a donation today

But we don't just stop there...

We also offer much needed support and advice to those who have COPD and their families, through our Nurse programme, Helpline, Breathe Easy support groups and the website and publications.

But don't just take our word for it, please click on the names below to find out how we're making a difference.

  • Jonathon who was found to have COPD through a BLF lung test
  • Maddie who lost her father to COPD
  • Alison a BLF nurse who support patients with COPD

If you'd like to help us then please make a donation today

Together, we can reach out and find the missing millions who don’t even know they have COPD. With your help, we really can achieve so much - thank you.
