20 November 2011
The British Lung Foundation is delighted to hear that the second reading of Alex Cunningham MP’s Ten Minute Rule Bill to legislate against smoking in cars when children are present has been moved to 20 January.
The first reading passed on 22 June, and the second reading was scheduled for 25 November, but was too far down the order paper to realistically have gone for debate. The new date gives Alex Cunningham MP a new opportunity to bring this important debate to the Commons.
Miranda Watson, Director of Communications at the British Lung Foundation said,
“The fact that Parliament has opted to move the second reading to a later date demonstrates how the Government is taking the issue of children’s exposure to cigarette smoke in the car very seriously. We welcome the move, and we look forward to a high turnout of MPs on the day.”
