'The Love Your Lungs campaign that was delivered in Hull was a huge success, which far outweighed our expectations. The British Lung Foundation's pre campaign media and press coverage was key and targeted really well. The numbers of patients that attended the events to be screened purely due to the telemarketing or seeing the adverts was something that Hull has not seen before. We also saw high numbers of opportunistic screening. 790 patients over 4 days was amazing, the BLF and our nurses and smoking cessation teams worked really hard to achieve these numbers. The feedback we have received has done exactly what was intended; the general public are more aware of the disease and the causes and of those screened 23% were referred onto their GP. Due to the success we have signed up to work with the BLF again in September this year to run another campaign to keep the momentum going.'
Toni Yell - Commissioning Development Manager, Hull PCT
'We’re thrilled with the work BLF Services has done with us around awareness raising and helping us to identify people with lung problems. By offering screening and support services out in the community we’ve been able to find people with potential COPD and get them treated appropriately and as quickly as possible.'
Shirley Smith – Assistant Director of Commissioning, NHS Nottingham City
'NHS Islington was pleased with the level of public engagement at events. The number of people referred to their GP for further investigation has been excellent in terms of identifying potential patients who may otherwise have not been identified. The rates of referral reflect the high levels of need in Islington. We hope they will now be able to access the required care before their condition becomes severe. We are grateful to the BLF for their organisation of the campaign, the learning from which will be used for future targeted social marketing campaigns NHS Islington may look to run.'
Liam Knight, Senior Commissioning Manager, NHS Islington
'With a significant prevalence of COPD, the BLF came to Barking and Dagenham with vigour and enthusiasm. A committed and direct approach, supported by knowledgeable staff, made the campaign a great success raising the awareness of COPD and resulting in a high number of referrals over the month.'
Sam Woodhouse, Marketing Communications and Engagement Team, NHS Barking and Dagenham
