COPD Awareness Campaigns

Love your Lungs campaigns are aimed to raise awareness and to encourage the early diagnosis of COPD. BLF Services work in conjunction with Primary Care Trusts in England to deliver successful campaigns.

The data behind the Invisible Lives Report allows us to pinpoint down to postcode level where people are most at risk of future hospital admission with COPD. Using this information, we run targeted month long campaigns in areas which aim to raise awareness of signs and symptoms of COPD and encourage early diagnosis amongst at risk groups. Early diagnosis and treatment could help slow the progression of the disease and helps avoid numerous emergency admissions.

Love your Lungs

Love your Lungs campaigns can be all or a combination of the following:

  • Telemarketing campaign to 5000 ‘at risk’ households
  • Pre-campaign communication with health care outlets to engage support
  • Provision and distribution of COPD poster and leaflet campaign materials to healthcare outlets, libraries and other appropriate venues
  • Supporting local media campaign targeted at newspaper, radio and TV outlets highlighted by marketing data including a press launch event
  • Awareness stands offering free lung testing in targeted community settings
  • Post-campaign evaluation to be provided to PCT

As of August 2011, we have run 91 awareness events, we've tested 12004 people and we've referred 2241 people to their GP with a low lung function.
