Dr Gary Ruiz

Dr Gary Ruiz was born into a medical family of mixed heritage (South American, European and Oriental) on 17 August 1958. He was educated at IslandSchoolHong Kong and qualified from King’s CollegeHospitalMedicalSchoolLondon in 1982. He followed a career in paediatrics and received specialist training in paediatric respiratory medicine in London and Birmingham. He was appointed Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician at King’s CollegeHospital in 1994. His main work interests are in respiratory infections and cystic fibrosis.He instigated and has led the paediatric bronchoscopy and TB services at King’s and is head of the general paediatric service. Dr Ruiz is a keen amateur violinist who plays with the Lambeth Orchestra and is an opera enthusiast. He finally married a paediatric nursing sister in 2007 after many idyllic picnics with her at Glyndebourne over a decade. He became a Trustee of the BLF in 2007.
