The British Lung Foundation - South West Region covers Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and the Channel Islands.The region covers the same area as the Strategic Health Authority, NHS Southwest.

- The largest urban centres are Bristol, BournemouthPoolePlymouthSwindonGloucesterTorbayCheltenham and Exeter
- Together, these eight areas account for over a third of the total population of 5.1 million people
- Even though the distance is slightly further, it takes almost an hour less to travel by car from the north of the region to Scotland than it does to travel from the north of the region to the tip of Cornwall
- The population of the South West is expected to grow by almost half a million people between 2003 and 2018 and by another 325,000 by 2028
- It has the largest land area of the nine English regions and has the highest percentage of land classified as rural
- A higher percentage of the population of the South West lives in rural districts than in any other English region (about 56%)
